Critical Infrastructure Protection: Elements of Risk

December 2007

To promote a greater understanding of risk as it relates to critical infrastructure protection (CIP), the CIP Program produced a monograph (PDF) addressing this important theme of homeland security. The monograph includes seven papers by authored by representatives of academia, local government, and the private sector, many of which either served in the Federal government or support the government through contracting organizations. These papers present numerous perspectives on elements of risk and address topics such as the definition of risk, assessment methodologies, and strategic approaches to risk management.    

The risk monograph provides a wealth of information on the fundamentals of risk, and how it is managed on various levels. It is hoped that these papers contribute to present discussions on risk and spur additional dialogue in the homeland security community.
